I recently met and befriended Karen Gurney of Winebard.ca at the Wine Bloggers Conference. She’s a great gal, and what can I say… I love Canadians. Anyway, she has this crazy idea for a social media experience, and she’s willing to bet her wedding on it.
In two weeks, she and her fiance will be getting married in wine country. The twist here is that they don’t have a location set yet! Their dream is to have a simple ceremony among the vines. Rather than reaching out to wineries to book a site, they have a great idea to have the winery “compete” to have the wedding at their facility. They are inviting vineyards in Napa and Sonoma to consider hosting their entourage of four on August 18, 2009 for their vows.
They have come up with a list of K.I.S.S criteria:
#1 Rose bushes at the end of the rows of vines
#2 Picturesque location for Wedding photos
#3 Can accomodate four people for about one hour on Aug 18th
#4 Must be in the Napa Valley (or Sonoma)
As an added bonus, a winery rep can hold a video camera for 10 – 20 minutes or be their witness
Interested prties can email Karen at winebard@gmail.com with a brief description of your winery and why your vineyard would be perfect for their special day. She will be posting the entries on her website at winebardweds.com as they come in and notifying the chosen winery on August 14. The official announcement will be made on the wedding day, followed by a post of how it went.
Interested wineries need to email her no later than August 13 at 4pm PST, this bride has some planning to do!
Personally, I think this is a great opportunity for a winey to grab some quick publicity and prove how social media savvy they are. No muss, no fuss. Quick and easy.
